Australia

“I especially like the very practical explanations for why techniques are performed the way they are.”

1. Why did you decide to join the online lessons?

I live in a remote part of Australia, and it costs a lot to travel by the time I get to the nearest city and then fly to Japan. The online lessons have been great to remove that barrier and regularly connect with a fantastic teacher.

2. Why will you train here and not at any other online lessons?

I started by watching Seki Sensei’s videos on YouTube, I liked his demeanor and was impressed by his wealth of knowledge. I especially like the very practical explanations for why techniques are performed the way they are.

3. What changed before and after you joined?

I started learning kendo over 10 years ago during a student exchange in Japan. Since then, I have trained in a modern sword style and reached the rank of 1st Dan. Since participating in the online lessons, I have gained a much deeper understanding of classical Japanese sword art.

4. What is the best part about joining?

The best parts of learning Asayama Ichi Den Ryu from Seki Sensei are training from home, being able to re-watch lessons, and following the YouTube challenge for extra bits of information.

5. What future goals would you like to achieve through the training?

I plan to go to Japan next, meet everybody from the online lessons, and one day get permission to teach this style in Australia.
