“The basic principles of Asayama Ichiden Ryu have expanded my understanding.”

1. Why did you decide to join the online lessons?

I wanted to seize the opportunity to train regularly with an iaido hachidan and soke of a koryu (in addition to all of Seki-sensei’s other credentials). Typically, I would only have the chance to train with an iaido hachidan once a year at national seminars, and only for a few days. Even then, their time was usually restricted to students holding higher ranks and limited to Seitei. The convenience of the online format also helps me maintain a healthy budo/life balance.

2. What changed before and after you joined?

The most profound and timely change I noticed after joining was an increased depth to my practice of Seitei Iaido and Muso Shinden Ryu. The basic principles of Asayama Ichiden Ryu have helped expand my understanding and execution of the other styles I train in.

3. What is the best part about joining the training/community?

The best part of joining this training community is the shared enthusiasm for teaching and learning that is palpable even in a virtual setting. The whole team puts an incredible amount of effort into delivering high-quality instruction, all while maintaining a positive and encouraging attitude.

4. What future goals would you like to achieve through the training?

I would like to achieve a level of proficiency that enables me to help spread the teachings of Asayama Ichiden Ryu to rural America.
