Seki Sensei, the instructor of our online lessons, has 40+ years of experience in training with katana. However, he has zero experience with Western swords. I thought it’d be interesting to hand him a longsword and see how he would try to fight with it.

This was a beautiful video for you guys to do. I really enjoyed watching sensei take to a new sword form with curiosity, discovering important differences and quickly adapting his technique to use its advantages. I think this was very well received internationally because it demonstrates both his open minded approach to other cultures and sword forms as well as his skill and experience in being able to adapt to the differences. The reactions seem overwhelmingly positive, many appreciating the unique perspective sensei brings and hoping he continues to experiment with the longsword and share his thoughts about it.
I’ve always loved longswords (big anglophile!) as well as katana, and this was very fun to see Seki-sensei play around with one.
